Behind the design- Shooting Star Koa Pendant. Some moments catch you by surprise. You’re not ready for them. You’re not searching for them. But they land in your heart and never leave.
That’s how this pendant came to be.
We were in Kauai — taking a breath, slowing down, just me and my son under a sky full of stars. He was looking up when it happened: a quick streak of light cutting across the darkness. A shooting star. His first.
I saw his face light up and felt something shift inside me. That single moment — simple, silent, and fleeting — etched itself into my memory. It was one of those experiences you want to keep forever. So I carved it into wood.
A Memory You Can Hold
The Shooting Star Pendant design started as a tribute to that night. I wanted to turn the feeling of awe, the bond between father and son, and the magic of a shared moment into something tangible — a keepsake with soul.
The design is simple but intentional: a curved form representing the motion of the star, a gemstone inlay as its glowing heart, and space on the back to engrave the date or words you never want to forget. Every detail is meant to reflect the beauty of impermanence — the Wabi Roots way.
Why Koa Wood
This piece had to be made from Koa.
Koa is native to Hawaii — strong, warm, resilient. Known as the “warrior’s wood,” it carries a deep sense of honor and grounded spirit. To me, it represents both protection and connection: to the islands, to heritage, and to the moments that shape us.
Each piece of Koa has its own glow — the grain dances in the light like waves or clouds. It felt right to carve this pendant from something that holds both strength and grace.
A Stone That Shimmers Like a Star
For the inlay, I chose Moonstone. Its gentle glow and shifting flash remind me of that first star we saw. Moonstone carries meanings of intuition, emotional clarity, and new beginnings. It’s a stone for people who feel things deeply — for those who know that even a quiet moment can hold the whole universe.
Other gemstone options are available too — Labradorite for its northern-light shimmer, or even Tiger’s Eye for grounding energy. Each one brings its own kind of magic.
